Gurvinder Singh (20s), a resident of Shahabad, went to Italy in July. A case has been registered at the Shahabad police station against three travel agencies namely Prince, Balkar Singh and Bittu. Gurvinder’s body reached Shahabad on Wednesday, after which family members reached Ambala with the body to express their displeasure.
Sanjeev Kumar, brother of the deceased, said, “The accused said that he would send Gurwinder to the ship and help him settle. They asked for Rs 15 lakh to send Gurvinder to Italy and get him a job there. Gurwinder left for Italy on July 11 via Turkey and Serbia. On July 13, they reached Serbia and were said to be smuggled from Serbia to Romania. “On July 21, he informed us that he was hiding in a field in the border area and that he was not being given food and drink, and we have not contacted him since July 22.”
“Accused Gurvinder was arrested by the police there, and now he was told not to have any contact with him for the next two to three months, but later he learned that Gurvinder’s body was found in a field in Romania. The accused has misled us. A case has been registered but the police are yet to arrest anyone,” he added.
After Gurvinder’s relatives blocked the highway, the police used mild force to disperse them. After Vij’s assurance that appropriate action would be taken, they lifted the siege. Vij directed Kurukshetra SP to take action against the accused agent. The minister also drew protestors who blocked the highway.
Ram Kumar from downtown Ambala said, “Some people tried to take the body to the chief minister’s residence. A small amount of force was used to bring the situation under control.”
