KYOGUCHI-TERAJI ASSOCIATION LIVES ON DAZN IN EUROPE
Leeds Warrior welcomes Mexicans to Yorkshire on December 10th – light flyweight belts to Japan on November 1st
Josh Warrington will defend his IBF featherweight world title against Luis Alberto Lopez at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Saturday 10th December live worldwide on DAZN – and Matchroom and DAZN can announce the lightweight flyweight association clash Hiroto Kyoguchi and Kenshiro Teraji will be broadcast live on DAZN in Europe when the pair meet in Saitama, Japan on Tuesday, November 1st.
Warrington (31-1-1 8 KOs) regained the IBF strap when he stopped Kiko Martinez at his Leeds fortress in March, with the hometown hero knocking down the Spaniard in the opening round before ending the matter in the seventh round ended to underscore a brilliant performance in front of his adoring fans.
The 31-year-old suffered a broken jaw in his second career win against Martinez but has made a full recovery and is now looking to face a dangerous mandatory challenge before aiming for the reunion blockbusters.
“So we’re back at Leeds Arena, back for the 12th and possibly the last time,” he said Warrington. “I am very happy to be back in Leeds. I started the year very well with a sensational 7th round stop against Kiko Martinez to reclaim my IBF belt and now end the year defending my belt against my mandatory defender who is a tough Mexican and waited a long time to fight me.
“It’s going to be a tough fight, he’s coming forward, he’s wild and unpredictable, I have a long history with Mexican fighters but I’m hoping to put on a great performance in front of my home crowd.
“I’ve been saying it for so long about going to the States and fighting in a unification fight. It’s the dream, but due to delays with jaw and hand injuries, I now have to fight my duty. I’m totally focused on doing a job, ending the show early and ending 2022 with a bang.”
Lopez (26-2 15 KOs) is no stranger to fighting in the UK, having redeemed his ticket to fight for the title by stopping Isaac Lowe in an Eliminator bout in London in December. The 29-year-old Mexican has been busy while awaiting his chance to face Warrington, scoring victories in April and August and will travel to Leeds with ambitions to replicate the stunning KO win achieved by fellow countryman Mauricio Lara Warrington in the February 2021 added .
“I remember not long ago Josh was knocked unconscious by a Mexican fighter in his country,” he said Alberto Lopez. “On December 10th in his hometown I will silence his fans. The IBF featherweight title returns to Mexico. I dedicate this fight to the Mexican people and everyone in my hometown of Mexicali. This is for you and Josh, enjoy the belt while you still have it.”
An announcement on ticket sales for Warrington vs. Alberto Lopez will be made shortly.
Ahead of this showdown, the focus is on Japan and what promises to be a scintillating match as WBA ruler Kyoguchi and WBC king Teraji put their belts on the line as the lightweight flyweight division takes steps toward an undisputed champion to crown.
Kyoguchi (16-0 11 KOs) shone in his last game, stopping Esteban Bermudez in eight exciting rounds in Guadalajara in June, his fourth successful title defense, which he snatched from Hekkie Budler in May 2018. Teraji (19-1 10 KOs) regained his WBC crown in March in a rematch with Masamichi Yabuki, landing a third-round stoppage in Kyoto for an instant revenge on his compatriot last September, where Yabuki ended Teraji’s five-year reign finished as WBC king with a surprise tenth-round win.
The card leaves one more than an interested observer as Puerto Rico’s Johnathan Gonzalez (26-3-1 14 KOs) will look to successfully defend his WBO light flyweight title against undefeated Shokichi Iwata (9-0 6 KOs) before he takes his seat ringside to compete in the main event in hopes of a unification bout with the winner.
“I can’t wait to be back in Leeds, one of the best atmospheres in the world,” said Eddie Hearn. “It’s great to have Josh back in the ring and ready to excite again and these fans will play a huge part in getting their hero over the line in a tough fight with dangerous Mexican Alberto Lopez.
“Before that we have a brilliant boxing night in Japan on November 1st. Hiroto has become the number one light flyweight in the world, but Kenshiro will want that title and the WBA belt – this fight can’t not entertain, fireworks are guaranteed and the winner will take a big step towards an undisputed fight. “
“It’s great to announce two more blockbuster fights coming to DAZN this fall,” he said Jo Markowski, CEO of DAZN Group North America. “Josh Warrington is never afraid to take on the toughest opponents and Lopez will be another big test. Kyoguchi vs. Teraji is a colossal union and I, for one, can’t wait. Everything live on DAZN.”
Kyoguchi vs. Teraji is live on DAZN in Europe in Albania, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain , Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Vatican City.
