Transportation Ministry readies Kertajati Airport for Umrah flights

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Directorate-General for Air Transport of Indonesia’s Ministry of Transport is making the necessary preparations at Kertajati International Airport in Majalengka, West Java, to serve the Hajj and Umrah flights expected from November 2022.

“We will prepare flight routes to Umrah (from Kertajati Airport) which are expected to start next November. The customs, immigration and quarantine facilities (of the airport) were also on call,” acting director-general Nur Isnin Istiartono, quoted here, said Thursday.

The Directorate-General will coordinate with relevant governments and institutions, regional authorities, airport operator and travel agencies to prepare Kertajati Airport for Hajj and Umrah flights.

Preparations for other supporting facilities such as hotels, hospitals and the hajj dormitory are also underway, he noted.

The official explained that on September 7, 2022, the Directorate-General requested the Saudi General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) to prepare flight times at Saudi airports for Indonesian pilgrims departing from Kertajati Airport in November.

He noted that as a gateway to international travel, Kertajati Airport is expected to play its role in the recovery of the national aviation industry from the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Hajj and Umrah Directorate-General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, by 2022, a total of 8,657 Umrah pilgrims came from areas around the airport, such as Bandung metropolitan area, Ciayumajakuning region and other regions in West Java and Central Java, awaiting theirs Flights to Saudi Arabia to carry out their pilgrimage.
