Cocoa Beach in Florida ranks first. The beach is an iconic and busy surfing center with an extensive surfing history dating back to the 1950s. The Beach is particularly popular on social media with over 3,000 surf-related Instagram hashtags. Sea temperatures are also favourable, averaging 27°C, making it a great place to head to the sea.

Hawaii is known for its beautiful beaches and warm seas, so it’s no surprise that Waikiki takes second place on Oahu. Oahu offers 122 surf breaks and 3.8 km of shoreline to explore. Similar to Cocoa Beach in Florida, surfers can expect a warm ride with average water temperatures of 27°C.

Huntington Beach in Orange County, California is the third best surf spot in the USA. It ranks well for the number of surf breaks at 51; On average, the spot is searched for 1,770 times a month worldwide. However, the seas appear to be slightly cooler than Florida and Oahu, averaging 75 degrees Fahrenheit (21 degrees Celsius).

Further study insights:

The best surf spot in the world is Puerto Escondido in Oaxaca, Mexico with a surf spot score of 7.5 out of 10.

Uluwatu in Bali, Indonesia is the most searched surf spot in the world with over 10,000 monthly searches over the last 12 months.

The most popular surf spot according to Instagram is Noosa in Queensland, Australia with a total of 16,036 tagged posts.
