England are back in action on Monday night in a bid to save their pride after being relegated to the Nations League in Italy on Friday night. They will also be some players looking to impress with the World Cup just around the corner.
As this edition of the Nations League group stage draws to a close, we have selected a four-way acca for Monday night’s 19:45 matches. There are plenty of familiar faces in action for Premier League fans so let’s get right to it…
A lone Harry Kane penalty is the only goal England have scored this Nations League season. It’s not a win in five for the Three Lions while Germany lag behind after a 1-0 loss to Hungary.
Both teams to score seems an odd call given England’s form – but the potentially toxic atmosphere at Wembley following England’s relegation on Friday night will ease somewhat. BTTS have prevailed in five of Germany’s last six games, while England have kept just one clean sheet in their last five games.
Hungary could be as surprised as anyone to top their best Nations League group with ten points from five games. Their only defeat came against Italy, who know that victory will propel them to the top of the group and all the way to the final.
Italy’s class may just be too much for Hungary, but we still support them to fight in Budapest. That’s why we chose Both teams to score. BTTS have prevailed in three of Italy’s last five games (although the other two are both against England!), while they have won two of their last four games.
Hungary lost 2-1 to Italy in the first leg and face a tough challenge to topple that goal line – but have scored in every Nations League game this season. It’s a Monday night Winner Takes All Clash and could be a smash hit!
The man from Norwich City is the most important talisman for his country. Finland have had a mixed record this Nations League season and know they will need to match Romania to remain in the second tier of the competition. They face a trip to Montenegro, a team they beat 2-0 in the first leg and a side that lost 1-0 on Friday night.
Finland have scored six goals in this Nations League and Pukki has five goal contributions with three goals and two assists – and also takes penalties for the Scandinavian side. If Finland score, Pukki is likely to be involved, as he was on Friday night when he appeared with a goal in the 1-1 draw.
Despite the opposition’s drop in quality, San Marino is still rubbish (shock). The advantage for the home team is that they stopped losing at six or seven and started losing at two or three, so that’s progress. Estonia are three of three players in the bottom division of the Nations League, including a 2-0 win over San Marino in the two sides’ last meeting.
The only thing that could stand in the way of this bet is that Estonia might score four or five goals, but San Marino have conceded only five in their three Nations League games – and six in the last six including friendlies! But they haven’t met since 2019.
Not one to tune into but could be a banker in the Acca…
