About Airbnb

Since its birth in 2007 when two hosts hosted three guests in their San Francisco home, Airbnb has grown to more than 4 million hosts with more than 1 billion guests from more than 220 countries and regions. Airbnb travel keeps the financial benefits of tourism with the people and places that create it. Airbnb has made billions of dollars for its hosts, many of whom are individuals who list their homes. More than half of the hosts who reported their gender were women, and one in five employed hosts were teachers or health workers. Airbnb travel has generated more than $4 billion in tax revenue worldwide. Airbnb has helped refine over 1,000 short-term rental regulatory frameworks in 80% of our top 200 geographies. In late 2020, as we continue to expand and diversify, we launched the City Portal to provide governments with a one-stop shop that supports data sharing and compliance with local registration rules. We continue to invest in innovation and tools to support our work with governments around the world to develop tourism that best serves the public.
