The Montreal New Cinema Festival (FNC) has selected the projects for the 2ndnd Edition of its international co-production market, launched to mark the festival’s 50th anniversary last year. The new issue is scheduled to be published from October 6th to 9th, in parallel with the regular activities of the FNC and the FNC Forum.
Specifically, the market will host the production and director teams of 15 projects in development, who will travel to Montreal from countries including Brazil, France, Ukraine, Senegal and the United States. This year’s selection also includes seven debut films and four films directed by women. Over 100 Canadian, American and European professionals are expected to meet with project developers and network events to develop new creative partners.
The initiative is organized in partnership with CineMart, the co-production market of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, where one of the selected projects will be invited for its 2023 edition.
The projects were curated by Hayet Benkarahead of the market, and Karim Aitouna, by Haut Les Mains Productions. The jury responsible for awarding the US$25,000 development aid award is made up of the Quebec Director Ayana O’Shun; Scott Macaulay, producer and editor-in-chief of Filmmaker Magazine; and New York producer and investor Shrihari Sathe.
The 51st edition of the Montreal New Cinema Festival will take place from October 5th to 16th. The full lineup will be revealed on September 20th.
