The 2023 Hotel Openings That Must Be Added To Next Year’s Travel Plans

If 2022 is the year travel makes a comeback, 2023 will undoubtedly be the year it flourishes. With country borders reopening and new hotels popping up around the world, all signs point to a year filled with picturesque adventures and authentic experiences. The most exciting hotel openings of 2023 tick all the boxes for top hospitality, including unique destinations, thoughtful amenities, above-average design and world-class cuisine. While your tried-and-true stays are undoubtedly worth repeat visits, there’s something to be said about the energy of checking in at a newly opened location and taking part in a property’s opening year.

While many of 2023’s most anticipated openings are brand new, others fall into the reopening category (think: years of restorations or renovations to iconic properties). Whatever umbrella they fall under, all the hotels below are generating a well-deserved buzz. Keep ahead for all hotels, from an award-winning Sedona destination spa and resort that debuted with a $40 million renovation after a two-year closure, to a stunning property start in Paris’ Saint-Germain-des-Prés neighborhood. Have it on your radar right now (plus a handful of dignitaries who started welcoming guests in December 2022).

New Openings in the United States

Before you set your eyes on international destinations (more on that in a moment), there are plenty of equally exciting hotels to open in the states next year. On the west coast, The Inn at Mattei’s Tavern will feature a cozy, modern farmhouse design, with the much-anticipated debut of the Auberge Resorts Collection in February. A region beloved for its scenic vineyards and thriving wine tourism scene, California is located in Los Olivos in the Santa Ynez Valley. Life House in Palm Springs unveils its first outpost in the sunny state in April; A 66-room retro estate originally built in 1965, renovated to celebrate mid-century taste with a mix of Japanese minimalism and desert botanical muses.

In Arizona, The Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley begins welcoming guests in the fall and will be set in 20 acres of gardens overlooking Scottsdale’s iconic Camelback Mountain. Nearby Utah will soon add ULUM by Under Canvas to its list of accommodations with a view; Opened in March, the elevated camping accommodation will be steps from the Mirrored Glass Arch in Moab. Speaking of boutique stays in outdoor destinations, Trailborn is a new lodging brand launching next year that will feature forward-thinking designer boutique properties near natural wonders such as national parks and monuments. Flagship outposts are established in Estes Park, Colorado, followed by hotels in Mendocino, California, the Grand Canyon, and Highlands, North Carolina.

Saint Regis Chicago

If you’re a Bourbon drinker, make The Manchester in Lexington, Kentucky your home base as you tour the distillery district. Opening in May, this high-end independent hotel will have 125 rooms and a rooftop bar. North and South Carolina will also welcome an influx of new properties for 2023, starting with the Mirror Hotel. The resort features 18 ‘invisible’ cabin suites designed with architectural exterior mirrors to reflect the picturesque surroundings. In downtown Charleston, The Pinch will debut at the coveted intersection of King & George Street in early spring. Housed in two original Victorian buildings dating back to 1843, the hotel will have 25 luxury rooms and an oyster bar called The Quinte. Also not to be missed: Zelda Dearest, a restoration project in Asheville’s South Slope neighborhood, partnered with the Fitzgerald mansion, to pay homage to Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald. You’ll have to wait until summer to experience it, but the properties will feature 20 rooms plus food and drink from native local chef Jacob Sessoms. Located a little north of Chicago, St. Regis Chicago will finally make its debut in 2023 and will make a striking addition to the city’s famous skyline with its 101 floors by architect Jeanne Gang of Studio Gang.

Not surprisingly, New York will be a hub for exciting hotel openings in 2023. In New York, The Fifth Avenue Hotel is scheduled to open in the spring and is located steps from Madison Square Park. Once the home and car of Miss Charlotte Goodridge, a prominent figure in Manhattan’s Gilded Age community, the property features interiors by Martin Brudnizki Design Studio and culinary directorship by Chef Andrew Carmellini. Uptown, Corinthia New York will be the group’s first property in the US and will be in the former Surrey hotel next to Central Park. In Williamsburg, the trendy neighborhood will host a Moxy facility in February and include a rooftop bar with breathtaking terrace views of the Williamsburg Bridge and Manhattan skyline. If you’re heading to the countryside, Habitas on Hudson opens its new Neo-baroque mansion in January and is located near the lovely village of Rhinebeck. Catskills will also welcome a new member to its enchanting boutique hotel roster: Eastwind Oliverea Valley opens in January. The hotel group played a role in reviving the area with the debut of the original property in Eastwind in 2018, and this new outpost will now feature 30 unique accommodations, all with Scandinavian influences and classic décor.

New Openings Worldwide

Hotel Dames des Arts

When you feel ready to take your travel prospects overseas, the new year is sure to bring with it many exciting international hotel openings. Hôtel Dames des Arts, which started in France, debuts in Paris in St Germain in January. Designer Raphael Navot has given the property an intimate and artistic flair, and guests can enjoy amenities such as rooms with views of the Eiffel Tower and three different dining venues. In Burgundy, COMO Le Montrachet opens in Puligny-Montrachet, in the French wine-growing region, with interiors Paola Navone. In Italy, Auberge Resorts Collection will introduce the entire Querce Collegia in Florence (the property is a cluster of redesigned 16th-century UNESCO buildings) with guests entering via a cypress-lined cobbled street. Nearby Rome will also welcome several new additions to the hospitality industry, including The Rome EDITION, ROMEO Roma and a Six Senses outpost. If you find yourself in Spain (which is always a good idea), the iconic wine region of Priorat welcomes the Gran Hotel Mas d’en Bruno in spring next year. The luxury boutique property is located on a historic estate on the banks of the Siurana River and features 24 suites with amenities such as an infinity pool and private wine cellar for experiential tastings.

If Turkey (Turkey) is on your to-do list, consider staying at The Peninsula Istanbul when it opens early next year. The beachfront property is located in the historic Karaköy district, which provides access to museums, galleries, restaurants and other cultural attractions. In Morocco, two anticipated Marrakech hotels are opening their doors. In January, Nobu Hotel Marrakech will begin welcoming guests at its all-suite facility with interiors designed by French architect Jacques Garcia and redesigned by Mahmoud Slimane. Set against the backdrop of the Atlas Mountains, the 181-room Park Hyatt Marrakech opens in April.

Gran Hotel Mas d’en Bruno

For those prone to isolated getaways, &Beyond Punakha River Lodge will not disappoint. This is the luxury travel company’s first lodge in Asia, and in September, guests can enjoy one of six tented suites or a two-bedroom family villa with uninterrupted Himalayan views along Bhutan’s Mo Chu River banks. In Japan, Aman Niseko will arrive at the slopes of Mount Moiwa and offer everything from Japanese hot spring swimming pools to skiing and snowboarding in the winter and hiking and river rafting the rest of the year. Aman’s sister brand Janu is also opening in Japan in 2023; The Tokyo hotel will have 120 rooms and the largest spa in the country.

If you’re heading to Central America, be sure to visit Sofitel Legend Casco Viejo Panama, which opened in January and is located in the historic Casco Viejo district of Panama City. In Mexico, Banyan Tree Group is taking the opportunity to launch a property in the emerging winemaking region of Valle de Guadalupe, which it plans to open in the 2023 harvest season.

Renovations, Restorations and Reopenings

Sometimes a refurbishment is so good, or a reopening is so expected, it’s even better than the first time. Take The Sea Ranch Lodge, for example. The California icon first opened in 1964 and is set on 53 acres of coastal scenery. The dining room, bar & lounge, cafe and general store will reopen in October 2021, while 16 guest rooms will not be open until next summer. There’s also The Georgian on the Santa Monica beach. The 1930s property opens in January 2023 a restoration of 84 guest rooms. Mii amo is another highly anticipated reopening in February due to a two-year closure and $40 million renewal. Located on the red cliffs of Boynton Canyon, the Sedona resort will offer reservations for 23 Casita rooms and suites. In Phoenix, the resurgence of the multi-story Egypt Motor Hotel will allow guests to travel back in time in this mid-century jewelery with its retro-modern aesthetic. The Dorchester will initiate the largest renovation in London since the 1980s with Pierre-Yves Rohon leading the design of the entrance, The Promenade, Artists’ Bar, guest rooms and suites since the 1980s, and Martin Brudnizki will lead the property as it is now named. will redesign the famous cocktail bar. Evening Bar. And if you’re after something tropical, look no further than Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya. Set to open in May, the return of the property, under the direction of designer Tara Bernerd, combines contemporary craft with a careful sourcing of local materials. December 2022 Openings

Palihouse West Hollywood is the reincarnation of the brand’s first hotel of the same name, which opened nearly 15 years ago. It’s located in the heart of West Hollywood and blends European-influenced style with Californian sensibilities (think vintage and custom furniture and wallpapered ceilings). Or stay by the wood stove while reading a headline from their original wood-panelled bookcase. If you find yourself in Paris, Maison ELLE exudes French elegance with its intimate collection of 25 rooms and suites located near the famous Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe.
