Prince Harry could be ousted from a coveted and crucial royal position due to legislative changes reportedly being considered by his father, King Charles III.
Under the Regency Act 1937, two or more Councilors of State are empowered to step in when the King is temporarily unable to perform his official duties because of illness or foreign travel.

Appointments to the role are determined by law, which states that they are to be filled by the king’s wife and the next four people in line to the throne over the age of 21.
That means Camilla, the King’s sons Prince William and Harry, Charles’ brother, Prince Andrew, and Andrew’s daughter, Princess Beatrice, are lining up for the Council of State positions.
However, according to a report in the UK Telegraph, the king wants to change the law so that only working members of the royal family are eligible to become councillors.
This would mean Prince Andrew, Prince Harry and Beatrice would not be allowed to perform Council of State duties, which include “attending Privy Council meetings, signing routine documents and receiving the credentials of new ambassadors to the UK,” according to the official website the royals.
This change would eliminate any chance of Harry taking on the role after he and his wife Meghan decided to retire from royal duties and relocate to California in 2020.
The news comes after Harry was reported “heartbroken” after discovering the initials “ER” had been removed from the shoulder of his military uniform when he wore it to stand guard. The initials are traditionally worn only by those who are “in the service” of the monarch.
According to Britain’s Sunday Times, the late monarch’s initials were apparently missing when Prince Harry wore his uniform at the vigil around his grandmother’s coffin on Saturday night, but they still appeared on the uniforms of the Prince of Wales and the disgraced Prince Andrew.
A royal source quoted by the news outlet said: “(Harry) is heartbroken. Removing his grandmother’s initials feels very intentional.”
The reports have surfaced as final preparations are made for the Queen’s state funeral, which is expected to be a spectacular display of national mourning, which will also be the largest gathering of heads of state in years.
