Penelope Margoles | Obituary | The Daily Item

Penny Jane Margoles

Penelope “Penny” Jane (Norwood) Margoles completed her most recent tax return on October 14, 2022.

Penny was born on November 29, 1953 in Fukuoka, Japan to Dr. Gilbert and Mina Norwood born. Penny celebrated her first birthday twice, crossing the international date line, earning the title of Golden Mermaid, and beginning her tradition of celebrating her birthday (and various other celebrations).

Penny graduated from Selinsgrove High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Susquehanna University and passed the CPA exam, which was another cause for celebration. Eventually, she put a punch to Girl Power by starting an all-female accounting firm, Bailey, Margoles & Associates. At one point they deigned to hire a male secretary.

Penny was a girl with many interests and activities, most notably supporting local vendors, artisans and growers and being an integral part of the Selinsgrove Farmers Market. Penny was an avid conservationist, willing to recycle, create an environmentally responsible homestead that welcomes all flora and fauna (regardless of party affiliation), and even capture and release insect invaders. Penny had an educated palate and enjoyed exotic flavors, fine cuisine and wine to match. She was a accomplished home cook who found it easy to prepare everything from a stuffed rigatoni pie to a wild mushroom risotto to Thanksgiving turkey. She ran the kitchen, glass of wine in hand, creating an atmosphere of love, laughter and friendship. Penny loved life and entertained herself with travelling, gardening, reading, visiting her sister’s pool and spoiling her pets.

She is survived by her sister Carol Norwood and her husband Richard Mease; her husband of 44, Robert Margoles; and her “adopted” granddaughter Cheyenne Spade. She is also survived by a number of cousins; Uncle Bud Neff; sister-in-law, Kathie Margoles; Niece Lindsay Busch and her husband Rob Busch and son Wee Robert Busch and so many many friends who loved her dearly.

Penny’s death came too soon and has filled many of us with immense sadness, but we will gather to celebrate her life at a date to be announced soon.

Arrangements are being conducted by the VL Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
