Signature Aviation, the world’s largest network of Fixed-Base Operations (FBO) providing essential support services at private aviation terminals, today announced the availability of Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ (SAF) at all of its California locations has expanded.
Business aviation users now have better access to SAF in California, enabling them to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of their air travel when flying from Signature Aviation’s private flight terminals at San Diego International Airport, Santa Barbara Municipal Airport, Fresno Yosemite International Airport and Palm Springs International Airport. This means that SAF is available to all 10 of Signature Aviation’s own locations in California.
SAF is widely recognized as a key element in helping meet aviation emissions reduction goals. Together with Neste, the world’s largest producer of sustainable jet fuel, Signature is accelerating the business aviation industry’s journey to net-zero carbon emissions. This expansion of SAF availability builds on the existing partnership between Neste and Signature from 2020. Under the current partnership, Neste and Signature will supply over 29 million gallons (89,000 tons) of blended SAF, reducing over 62,000 tons of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, equivalent to the emissions of more than 13,000 cars in a year.
“SAF is recognized as the most effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from air travel and a key solution to fulfill the business aviation industry’s promise to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” said Chris Cooper, President of Neste US. “Together, Signature and Neste are meeting growing industry demand by increasing volumes and locations where customers can easily access SAF to meet their ambitious climate goals.”
“Two years ago, we announced our first sustained supply of sustainable jet fuel for private jets in San Francisco. Since then we have had a strong focus on investing in the supply chain, collaborating with our customers and expanding availability with Neste. The result today is 10 California sites that can critically deliver the solution to reducing carbon emissions from private aircraft,” said Beatrice Batty, Director, Fuel Operations at Signature Aviation.
This expanded availability is made possible by Neste’s growing production capacity – Neste will be able to produce 515 million gallons of SAF (1.5 million tonnes) annually by the end of 2023. Neste has an ambitious carbon palm print target to help its customers reduce their greenhouse gas emissions by at least 20 million tonnes per year by 2030 and achieve the goal of carbon neutral production by 2035.
For Signature Aviation, the expanded availability of SAF in California is a key goal of Signature Renew, its company-wide sustainability initiative. As the first FBO in the world to offer a permanent supply of SAF, Signature Aviation continues to offer a variety of practical solutions to help operators meet emissions targets. To date, Signature offers a sustainable aviation fuel option for privately operated aircraft at aviation service facilities in California, Colorado, Washington, Alabama, Texas and the United Kingdom.
SAF delivers the performance of conventional jet fuel, but with a significantly lower life cycle carbon footprint. Using Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ in its pure form reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% over the life cycle of the fuel compared to using fossil aviation fuel. Neste MY SAF is made from 100% sustainably sourced, renewable waste and residual raw materials such as used cooking oil from restaurants and animal fat waste. SAF is blended with conventional jet fuel and works seamlessly with existing fueling infrastructure and aircraft engines. Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ is a solution available today that is in use around the world.
