The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) together with 173 participants from 80 companies, began representing the Maldives at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London 2022.
Considered one of the largest travel trade events, WTM London is hosted at ExCel London from November 7th to 9th. The Maldivian delegation at the fair is led by MMPRC CEO and Managing Director, Tuaib Mohammed.
WTM London is considered one of the “world’s leading events for the travel industry to meet industry professionals and conduct business transactions”. MMPRC will take full advantage of the event’s industry networks and unrivaled global reach. The in-person three-day event creates business opportunities by connecting industry representatives and international media.
Throughout the travel fair, MMPRC aims to meet with the UK travel trade along with other global partners and share the latest and greatest offers and products of the Maldivian tourism industry. The main tourism promoter and industry partners will promote the “diverse products and sectors” while presenting the unique aspects, activities and experiences through the 420 square meter two-story booth at the fair.
Moreover, MMPRC reports this participation in one of the world’s largest travel fairs, coinciding with the island nation’s golden jubilee for tourism. In addition, the tourism promoter and industry partners aim to maintain the presence and momentum of the destination as a vacation spot at the forefront of the British market, currently the third source market for the Maldives.
Highlights of activities planned for WTM London 2022 include the ‘Maldives Media Gathering’ – celebrating 50 years of tourism in the Maldives. The meeting held on November 9 included speakers Hussain Afif, one of the most prominent figures in the Maldivian tourism scene, Dr. Abdulla Mausum, Minister of Tourism, Dr. Farah Faisal, High Commissioner of the Maldives to the United Kingdom, The Great. Great Britain and Ireland, as well as MMPRC front man Toaib Mohammed.
To strategically promote the Maldives during the Maldivian delegation’s visit to the UK, MMPRC will additionally host a three-city roadshow series in London, Manchester and Newcastle on November 9, 10 and 11 respectively.
The UK is considered one of the strongest source markets for the tropical destination, both in 2022 and traditional terms. The country currently ranks third in terms of source market with 147,535 annual arrivals as of November 2, 2022. This is a market share of 10.9 percent of the total 1,354,828 annual arrivals to the Maldives.
