Italian Cruise Port Expects 110,000 Passengers in 2023

Taranto Cruise Port expects to welcome more than 110,000 cruise visitors in 2023 as southern Italy continues to grow, local tourism and port officials said at a port briefing on Jan. 20.

In 2022, the cruise port received 54 ship calls (26 more than in 2021) and transported approximately 110,000 passengers to their destinations. This figure represents a 93% increase in calls and a 35% increase in visitors compared to 2021. This year, the port is expected to receive 40 cruise calls from seven different cruise lines.

The port to host the Italian Cruise Day in 2023

The port will be organized in October 2023 Italy travel day, a major regional travel conference organized by Risposte Turismo. Along with Del Prete, other speakers at the tour briefing included Gianfranco Lopan, member of the Tourism, Development and Tourism Business Council of Puglia; Taranto Mayor Rinaldo Melucci; Sergio Prete, President of the Ionian Sea Port Network Authority; Francesco Di Cesare, President of Risposte Turismo; and Fabrizio Manzulli, Deputy Mayor and Member of the Taranto Economic Development Council.

Mayor Melucci said, “The role of Taranto in the travel industry is increasing thanks to the opportunities offered by the Italian Travel Day in terms of the number of calls and the marketing of the territory in 2023.
