Goodbye Greyhound, hello Megabus: Trailways of New York announces new partnership

Trailways of New York is moving on after its divorce from Greyhound this spring. It is partnered with Megabus, one of the largest bus companies in North America and a major competitor of Greyhound.

Megabus.com, part of Coach USA, offers intercity bus service throughout the eastern, southern and midwestern United States and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec. It is known for offering express bus service from city to city across North America with fares as low as $1. The company recently introduced real-time bus tracking, allowing customers to monitor their buses with live departure and arrival times.

By partnering with Trailways of New York, one of the country’s largest and oldest intercity travel providers, Megabus will be able to connect passengers to more destinations in New York and Canada. Those expanded travel options include travel from New York City to 39 cities, Albany to 82 cities, Buffalo to six cities, Lake Placid to 23 cities, Rochester to 15 cities, Syracuse to 19 cities and Toronto to six cities.

“Expanding our network to over 100 cities across New York state is a great opportunity for megabus.com,” said Colin Emberson, Vice President of Commercial Development for megabus.com. “We’re excited to be able to offer our New York customers a wide variety of convenient new travel options as the holidays approach.”

Collaboration is the future

The new partnership comes nearly six months after Trailways and Greyhound ended their 25-year relationship in the spring. On June 1, Greyhound canceled its contract with Trailways.com to sell online tickets. The arrangement benefited passengers who had to take several buses to reach a destination, allowing them to buy a single ticket that included rides on Con and Conairí buses. Greyhound ended the long-term arrangement less than a year after German-owned FlixMobility, the parent company of FlixBus USA, got Greyhound.
