General Brown Lions punch their ticket to the Dome

ENDICOTT, New York (WWNY) – The General Brown Lions are looking to advance to the state championship game for the first time since 2010 Saturday at Union Endicott High School, where they faced Lackawanna in the state Class C semifinals.

In the 2nd quarter, the Lions were down 6-0 when Gabe Malcolm scored on a 12-yard run: the Lions led 8-6.

Still in 2nd place, the score is now 14-8 Lackawanna. Malcolm scores his 2nd touchdown of the game: Lions up 16-14.

In the 3rd quarter, when Caleb Natali found paydirt two yards out the score was 20-16 Lackawanna: 22-20 General Brown.

In the 4th quarter, the score was 22-20 when Natalie scored his 2nd touchdown of the game from 16 yards out: 29-20 Lions.

General Brown defeated Lackawanna 29-20 to advance to the state Class C championship game.

Tonight, the Lions were escorted back to General Brown High School in Dexter, where many fans welcomed the team back home after their big win that punched a ticket to the state championship game in the Dome.

In boys high school hoops, Massena faced Northeast Clinton in the championship game of the Saranac Central Tournament.

In the 1st quarter, Ty Lucy nailed a 3 to put Massena up by 3.

It was Lucy in 3 more balls as the Red Raiders extended their lead to 6.

From the steal, Taylor Mitchell set up Massena for 2.

Colin Patterson came up with a board and a bucket, and Massena Northeastern defeated Clinton 61-44 to take home the title.

In Lafargeville, Hermann DeKalb met Alexandra in the consolation game of the Lafargeville Turkey Tip-off.

In the 1st quarter, Peyton Watson dropped a floater and Alexandria was down 8.

Elsewhere, Michael Maurer drills a 3 to put the Green Demons up 11.

Purple Ghosts answer: Alexandria down 9 when Watson hits inside.

In the 2nd quarter, Adam Lynch broke through.

The Green Demons beat Alexandria 56-26.

In girls hoops, Heuvelton met Saranac Central in the championship game of the Saranac Central tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Beekmantown 45-24 in the semis on Friday night and will be looking to add some more hardware to the trophy case.

Ashley Weston was the only Lady Bulldog in double figures with 10, Katie Cunningham had 9 and Allie Trathen had 7 points.

Trathen was also named to the all-tournament team.

But Saranac Central handed Hewlton its first loss of the season, beating the Lady Bulldogs 47-34.

In FPHL action from the Alex T. Duffy Fairgrounds, the Wolves host Elmira.

Parker Moskal would score a hat-trick and that was all the scoring the Mammoths needed as they beat Wolves 3-1.

Samuel Hrabcock scored the lone goal for the Wolves in the loss.

With the loss, the Wolves fall to 5-6 on the season.

In women’s college hockey from Cheil Arena, 10th-ranked Clarkson hosts Maine in non-conference play.

At 1:12, Clarkson got on the board to make it 1-0 when Darcy Lappan hit the back of the net on a power play goal.

In the 2nd period, Clarkson was down 3-1 when Haley Winn found the mark to put the Lady Golden Knights within 1 at 3-2.

With less than 2 minutes left, Winn scored her 2nd of the game to tie the score at 3.

Maine defeated Clarkson 5-4 in overtime.
