G20 Digital Innovation Network (DIN): Catalyst for Digital Economy Growth in Indonesia


Nusa Dua, Bali, September 19, 2022 – (ACN Newswire) – The Digital Innovation Network (DIN) G20 meeting can be a catalyst to accelerate the development of the digital economy sector in Indonesia, Minister Johnny G Plate said Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Informatics (KOMINFO). The event aims to bring together startups, venture capital firms, policy makers and leading global technology companies including Google.

“We believe that the DIN event is an important catalyst for the growth of the digital economy by strengthening cooperation between start-ups, venture capital companies and national and international corporations,” said the minister in his opening speech of the G20 DIN, a high-level side event of the 2022 G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG), in Nusa Dua, Bali.

Speaking to the G20 ministers and representatives of international organizations present, Plate pointed out that the development of the digital economy in Indonesia is showing a positive trend. “In 2021, the value of digital economy in Indonesia reached US$70 billion and will grow to US$315.5 billion by 2030. This potential is Indonesia’s future economy (strength) supported by various well-performing startups. ” he said.

Plate said that Indonesia currently has two decacorn startups or companies whose valuations have reached $10 billion and more than 10 unicorn startups that have valuations of at least $1 billion. Plate believes that start-ups play an important role in determining the development of the digital economy sector, both at national and regional level.

“I trust the G20-DIN (Organizing Committee) to conduct this series of meetings and discussions that are expected to foster various collaborations on digital innovation,” Plate said.

The G20 DIN meeting was held on September 2-4, 2022 at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC) in Badung District. More than 400 attendees attended the event in person, with another 200 attending the event virtually.

G20-DIN 2022 Chair Sonny Hendra Sudaryana said at a post-inauguration press conference that implementation of the G20-DIN 2022 will focus on five priority sectors: education technology, financial inclusion, healthcare, supply chain, and green and renewable energy.
