Foreign tourist visits in 2022 rose by 228.30 percent: BPS

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) recorded a 228.30 percent increase in foreign tourist visits from January to November 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.

Cumulatively, from January to November, the number of foreign tourists reached 4.6 million people, an increase of 228.30 percent compared to the same period in the previous year. “, said the head of BPS, Margo Yuwono, on Monday in Jakarta.

He noted that in November 2022, some 544.8 thousand foreign tourist visits were recorded through the main entry points, while 112.4 thousand foreign tourists entered through the border gates.

The number of foreign tourist visits through the main entry points decreased by 3.6 percent compared to October 2022. However, the number of visits in November 2022 increased by 336.50 percent compared to November 2021 or on a year-on-year basis.

“Although there was a decrease in November compared to last month, in the whole year 2022, starting from April showed that the number of foreign tourists was much better compared to the same period before. The number of foreign tourists compared to during the pandemic,” said Yuwono.

Based on nationality, the most foreign tourist visits in November 2022 were recorded from Singapore, with 99.39 thousand visits, which contributed 15.1 percent, or an increase of 17.65 percent compared to October 2022.

In second place came Malaysia, with foreign tourist visits reaching 99.38 thousand, a contribution of 15.1 percent, or down 6.63 percent, compared to October 2022.

The third-highest number of foreign tourist visits came from Australia, at 79.38 thousand, with a contribution of 12.1 percent, or down 14.64 percent, compared to that recorded in October 2022.

In addition, the hotel room occupancy rate (TPK) reached 54.41 percent in November 2022, up 2.10 percent compared to October 2022, he noted.

“The increase was caused by various factors, such as the implementation of various private and government meeting package activities, national meeting, national MTQ, and other events,” he said.
