job purpose

The Nutrition Officer is responsible for overseeing nutrition projects and overseeing and tracking technical and operational activities with partners to ensure that they are implemented efficiently, with high quality and in a timely manner, thus contributing to the quality of implementation of the nutrition project carried out in Northwest Syria. Under the supervision of the health coordinator and district coordinator, the Field Nutrition Officer is responsible for, and will maintain, partnerships and close working relationships with implementation partners on technical issues related to nutrition to identify gaps, build capacity, and improve coordination responsible for identifying possible points of cooperation with local civil society organizations focused on nutrition and working on a WV site to create synergies.

main responsibilities

1. Technical

  • Identify key gaps and priorities of intervention in nutrition programs in NW Syria and participate in needs assessment.
  • Provide professional expertise and support WVI partners in implementing nutritional grants.
  • Develop tools and means to track the implementation of project activities based on lessons learned from previous projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and develop a consolidated nutritional plan by extracting relevant information from the nutritional component grant.
  • Provide other sector workers with professional expertise including protection, WASH, health and livelihood to integrate nutrition and create synergy.
  • providing technical guidance in the preparation and review of bids and conducting a technical assessment of supplies and materials required for the nutritional projects;
  • Provide technical expertise, coordination and development of a capacity building plan for field workers in the nutrition sector by providing the necessary training
  • Evaluate and document the availability and functional profile of the nutritional service
  • Maintain an up-to-date database of food supply status in coordination with WVI partners.
  • Facilitate joint supervisions with other WV sector teams to monitor progress and review the performance of the WV partner in relation to nutrition
  • Monitor the status of the key indicators of the nutrition sector in the implementation area of ​​WV.
  • Suggest contextually meaningful implementation modalities consistent with WV nutritional priorities and international guidelines.
  • Work closely with the field team to mobilize community representatives, community-based organizations, local community leaders, etc. to create demand and adopt healthy lifestyles.
  • Ensure field plans align with WVI expectations and community needs
  • Identify and recommend areas with resource gaps in that area
  • Identify areas for research, documentation, and learning
  • Prepare technical monitoring sheets to track the progress of nutritional projects.
  • Regularly visit project sites/activities and provide on-the-job training for staff;
  • Effectively represent WV at Nutrition Cluster meetings, partners and other nutrition-related technical meetings at the request of Health TA WV and share minutes of meetings with Ops and Health Technical Advisor.
  • Explain and communicate WV’s program values ​​to partners and stakeholders

2. coordination

  • Technical review of MEAL reports in coordination with health coordinator for monitoring and accountability findings;
  • Working with the MEAL team and Health Coordinator to establish and support the implementation of contextually appropriate grievance and feedback mechanisms across all operational areas.
  • Improved transparency; Efforts are not duplicated and wasted.

3. Reporting

  • Review monthly reports from WV-supported partners and on-site field teams.
  • Support for WV reporting in nutrition.
  • Compile the nutritional reports from the field, perform data analysis to inform decision making and implementation

4. Knowledge Management

  • Development of case studies, success stories, best practice reports and key learnings from the implementation of the nutrition sector on a quarterly basis
  • Lead reflection sessions on nutrition issues in collaboration with the field team, partners and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Design new implementation approaches, strategies, or modalities to improve the effectiveness of health and nutrition programs

Knowledge/qualifications for the role

1. Required work experience

  • At least 3 years of experience in nutrition programming, preferably in an NGO environment.

2. Required education, training, license, registration and certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition, medicine or related degrees

3. Preferred skills and qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Syrian public sector health systems and NGOs and CBOs is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with local communities to implement health interventions is essential

5. Physical Requirements

  • Ability to maintain performance expectations in different cultural contexts, psychologically stressful environments and physical hardships

6. Language Requirements

  • Strong communication skills in Arabic and English (oral and written)
