TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs). Erick Thohir on Wednesday his determination to fix Indonesia football through the Indonesian Football Association (PSI). He claims he will adopt his “total cleanup” strategy in the Football Association as he did to the SOEs ministry, if elected.
“It is an attempt to fix Indonesian football that has remained dirty for too long. It resembles my perception when I entered the SOEs ministry. I enjoy putting people in jail,” said the minister in Central Jakarta on 1 . February.
He recalls his urge to work out corrupt tendencies that exist in the SOEs ministry. Objectively, under his leadership, high-profile cases of corruption uncovered under his leadership include the Asabri and Jiwasraya insurance frauds. The case within Garuda Indonesia was also thoroughly investigated.
Erick Thohir believes PSSI needs similar treatment as the aforementioned institutions. “[Football] has the same issue,” said Thohir. PSSI members along with football club presidents will elect the future president.
