“The feeling of beating Liverpool is so strong” – Arteta on returning to the top
Arsenal continued their perfect Europa League record as Mikel Arteta’s side clinched a narrow first-half win over Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt thanks to Bukayo Saka’s goal.
Bodo/Glimt had won 14 straight European home games but Saka gave Arsenal the perfect start when he traded a one-two with Albert Sambi Lokonga before the ball was deflected into the net by the attacker.
The hosts had their moments in the first half, but it wasn’t until after the break that the Norwegians really threatened Arsenal. Ola Solbakken came close before Runar Espejord missed a great chance after the hour.
But Arsenal successfully weathered the storm to record three wins from three in Group A and continued their excellent form ahead of Sunday’s trip to Southampton in the Premier League. The win means Manchester United still have a chance to top Group E with two games to go. Real Sociedad have won all four games so far but will play against United again in the last group game.
It seems likely that these two teams will advance, but the second-placed team will have to go through a play-off match with one of the eliminated Champions League teams to reach the round of 16.
