Argentina captain Lionel Messi with the Copa America trophy in 2021

Expert predictions

In his second attempt to “predict how things will be rocked in Qatar”, CBS Sport Argentina’s James Benge and Lionel Messi tipped them to “get revenge” for 2014 by beating Germany in the final. Eight years ago, Germany won the cup with a 1-0 win after extra time, but this year Benge believes the Argentines will triumph 2-1 on December 18, with Messi writing himself in the ‘history books’. Benge’s first attempt at tipping earlier this year had prompted Brazil to “conquer it all” by beating England 2-0 in the final.

With a 100% success rate so far, who does he think will win in 2022? ? According to Klemens calculations, the winner will be Argentina, who will beat England in the final. “Messi will win something like that [Cristiano] Ronaldo has never done that and Argentina will celebrate their first World Cup win in 36 years,” he said.

After lifting the trophy in Russia in 2018, Didier Deschamps’ France will be among the leaders again in 2022, Graham Ruthven told The Sporting News. But “the curse of the defending champions” could hit France in the round of 16 should they meet Argentina. Ruthven has tipped Spain to beat England in the final. At the European Championships, there was a feeling that Spain “were on the verge of lifting a trophy” and they “seem poised to triumph in Qatar”.
