
The 21st Bosphorus Film Festival, which will take place this year on October 28-10, began with the opening ceremony at the Atlas 1948 cinema and the screening of Michal Blaško’s film Victim.
The opening ceremony of the 10th Bosphorus Film Festival, organized by the Bosphorus Culture and Arts Foundation, took place on Friday 21 October at the Atlas 1948 cinema. At the opening ceremony, master director Lav Diaz was presented with the “honorary award”.
On the night when the festival program was also presented, Ogün Şanlıer, Chairman of the Bosphorus Film Festival and the Boğaziçi Culture and Arts Foundation, gave the first speech. Şanlıer said in his speech: “We are happy that we managed to make the festival one of the most important national and international events in our country in a short time.” He also stressed that the festival has now reached double digits and stated that they are proud to have reached the point they aimed for 10 years ago. Şanlıer thanked all institutions and sponsors who supported the festival, also thanked the festival team and invited them to the stage.
In his speech, Deputy Minister for Culture and Tourism Ahmet Misbah Demircan emphasized that cinema has an important collecting role, saying: “There is a lot to tell and to do. This team also makes great efforts for the arts to bring cinema and world cultures closer together. It is good that you are joining in this effort,” he said.
Honorary Award to Lav Diaz
After the speeches, the Filipino director Lav Diaz was presented with the “Honorary Award”. The award was presented to Diaz by Ogün Şanlıer, Chairman of the Bosphorus Film Festival and the Bogazici Culture and Arts Foundation. Şanlıer stated that Lav Diaz, one of the most important voices in contemporary cinema, has written her name in gold letters in world cinema with her epic portraits and that they are honored to welcome her to the Bosphorus Film Festival.
In her speech, which pointed to the transformative power of cinema, Lav Diaz also drew attention to the wars in the world and said: “Cinema will prosper despite the war.”
After the speeches and the award ceremony, the opening film “Victim” was shown. Koray Abay hosted the night. Also at the ceremony, Boğaziçi Culture and Arts Foundation Board Member Fecir Alptekin presented plaques to Turkish Airlines Corporate Communications President Rafet Fatih Özgür and Boğaziçi Film Festival President Ogün Şanlıer to Anadolu Agency Project Management Coordinator Oğuz Karakaş. and TRT Deputy General Manager Muhammed Ziyad Varol. happened.
October 22 program at the festival
The second day of the 10th Bosphorus Film Festival will feature films from the National Feature Film Competition and the International Feature Film Competition as well as special screenings.
